well, thanks for your help. They are officially called "Bamileke Feather Headdress", so I was sort of on the right track - gee they are expensive, but effective I think.

Also called 'Tsa Ntang Disc' they are traditionally worn by royal dancers of the Kuosi Society during important ceremonies held by the Chief. Originally made from parrot feathers, a symbol of prosperity, they are seen as rare objects of beauty possessing the positive qualities of birds.
